THE BIG QUESTION
Shall we set a deadline?
Let’s set some goals first. This is the hard part. Steve feels we need to make BIG progress. This year, Slim’s was a good example of making big progress. Next year needs to see some exponential progress from where we are now.
Ned suggests that if in one year there’s no record deal (or one pending) that we’re done. That’s a major record deal. KC feels he would need the band to provide a $20,000 individual salary so we can all quit our jobs.
Someone asks a question about advances. Green Day got a $700,000 advance. They get to keep that. They spent some on a new album, the rest on crack cocaine.
We are still trying to decide on a deadline date.
Drucker: “The difference between six months and a year is…”
Paul: “Six months.”
After much discussion, it’s decided that December 31, 1996 is the deadline. That night will be our big celebrity farewell concert or celebration at Mansion Cellars and KC will smash his guitar.
On this date, we must know that the band will be our careers. The strongest indication of this will be a record contract that enables us to quit all our jobs. If not, we all quit. We won’t have another meeting about it, Anthony will put it on the LIMB Line, except Joel will forget to call and he’ll be soloing at Hotel Utah the last Friday of January. Nobody can quit before that date under penalty of severe punishment by Peter.
But if we break up, we’ll still get together once in awhile to help Paul get laid.
KC needs the weekend of August 17th off.
